Eco & Indigo Fiber Arts uses natural dyes and leaves to create scarves and other wearables. The process of Eco dyeing and printing is an artistic alchemy involving leaves, flowers, plant material, rain water, iron and fire. We are working in collaboration with the essences of the plants, encouraging each plant to imprint its unique signature onto the fabric. Each item we make is a one-of-a-kind magical creation. Our local Hill Country harvests include leaves and blossoms from Cypress, Pecan, Oak, Sumac, Sycamore, Mexican Buckeye, Tallow, Sweet Gum, Sages, Larkspur, Purple Heart, Crepe Myrtle, Turks Cap as well as Cochineal. We also use Eucalyptus, Japanese Maple, Chestnut, Maple, Geranium, Bamboo, Madder, Logwood and more.

Our Indigo dyeing uses the plant dye Indigo, and involves multiple steps incorporating Japanese Shibori techniques of folding, tying and stitching.

Shiila Safer, the main creatress at Eco & Indigo Fiber Arts, is a Creativity in Nature Coach, and brings her past experience as a tie-dye and batik clothing artist to join with her intimate relationship with trees and our Earth Mother. Eco-dyeing and printing is a new way to assist people in feeling a connection with the natural world through the beauty of the plants.
